After a spontaneous awakening at the age of 17, John describes being absorbed into what we are after we die, and at that moment knowing that living as that was the sole purpose of his existence. 

John’s message is for those with a sense of deeper purpose, not given to simply pursuing a better life through worldly or even spiritual endeavours. 
Though many who yearn for meaning have experienced some form of awakening, whether subtle or profound, it is only a small first step. To John, awakening and even enlightenment, are of little value compared to purity of heart. 

John describes a pure heart as one that’s not filled with the wants and needs of your self, but one that remains open and soft in any situation and most importantly, at any personal cost. Living this way means that regardless of how you are treated, regardless of what happens to you, you will not leave openness and softness of heart in even the smallest way to protect your ego, your self or even your heart. 

It is this fundamental way of being that is able to transcend our circumstances, conditioning, genetics, and ultimately, death itself.
